Papa Mummy 25 years Together.....

together in love since 22nd Feb 1987..

God gave me a blessing,
– He gave me the Best parents….!!!

Papa, There were times when you held my hand,
and that  gave me strength to stand up in life…

Mummy, when I was sick…. I would cry and be up all night,
and then you would cuddle me and spend sleepless nights…

In my life….I have been wrong …. I have been lost,
But you stood by me and showed me the right path…

So I thank you Mummy, and I thank you Papa,
For giving me this beautiful life.
I love you both so much,
And I hope for so many years for you two together.;

Oceans so deep or mountains so high, cannot express my love for you….
Mom, Dad What a blessing the both of you have been to me !!!!

your loving Son,

I have so much to be thankful for, but I would not have any of those blessings if it were not for the blessing of my Mom and Dad loving each other for 25 years.

I miss the warmth of your gentle hug and the love I felt when my arms were wrapped around you. I miss seeing your beautiful smile and the sound of your voice saying my name. I miss our family, without you in it. There is emptiness there, where you once were. I miss you  in moments of sucess, I miss you saying…”this is my grandson” to everyone around and the look of pride you held with each word spoken everytime I did something good..

I miss our evening prayers, but I know you are with our Lord praying for all. Your prayers and sacrifice gave us everything that we have. To pray, To help, To sympathize, To love, To Forgive, To care ….. you taught us all!

And now when I close my eyes and feel the warmth of your gentle hug once more and envision wrapping my arms around you. I see your smile as you say my name. I realize that if I could just go back into my precious memories of you I would find your treasured words and love in a special place deep in my heart.

I miss you but I have to go on with my life till my day comes. What a wonderful day it will be when we finally are reunited at heavens door. Until then my memories of you I will keep near to my heart and I will pass them on to those who are so dear.

Success Tips Part 1

Many books come out advising people on how to be successful ! Here are few tips which I found useful and which I try and practice in my life.  This is my perception, you may differ because everyone thinks differently.

1. To be a winner  you need to be sure that you are one. Losers might think you have delusions of grandeur, but the fact remains that unless you think and live like a winner you will never become one.

2. Attitude – Get it right. Learn to ignore comments and unworthy criticisms. Show the world what you are.

3. Look into the eyes – while talking to people, look directly into their eyes. Never put your head down unless you have done something bad.

4. Accept your mistakes even before someone points it out and rectify them. Never leave too much room for others to enter into your territory because of your flaws and mistakes.

5. There is no mistake in talking about yourself. Provided, you have enough to talk about. Otherwise just keep your mouth shut. In this new world, very rarely others would talk for you.

6. To make others talk about your plus points, you may start talking about them. Put some words of encouragement, acknowledge their good work etc.

7. Never expect anything back from anyone. Do things because you feel the other person deserves it and it if it is justified. Give respect and take respect.

8. Have lot of friends. But do not make everybody close to you. Have a bunch of good friends whom you trust to share your tensions and secrets.

9. Always anticipate that somebody might back-stab you. If someone does, never bother much, but plan in advance how to come out and just execute the plan.  If it is a dear friend, give him chances to come back to you. And still he chooses to be against you, leave the issue and move forward, because you are born to win. Surprise people with your anticipation skills.

10. Rumors and Gossips about you….??? just enjoy them with a light heart.  Let you be the point of discussion among others always.  That shows that you can influence the thoughts of even your opponents.  Never Bother to retaliate. Because doing so is like throwing mud up and waiting for that to fall on you.

11. Having a bunch of winners around you as your friends makes you stronger. Encourage each other and finish the race together.

12. Having a bunch of losers around you is also recommended, because in a competition somebody should be there to finish last when you and your friends are the winners.

13. People say ‘Early Bird Catches the worm’ But according to me: Be just on time. Never be early, Never be too late for anything. Waiting is the most unfruitful thing you can do. But of course, enjoy waiting for your best friends or dear ones. But never in your professional life.

14. Be spontaneous and innovative. Any moron can come up with ideas if you give him a life time. But to be a winner in this new world you need to be fast and think out of the box.

15. Allow people to Judge you and your work. But finally if you decide to make a change you should be first convinced about the judges and judgment.

16. Hang around with birds of the same feather. A lot of positive support will cheer you up and enhance the quality of your life.

17. Once in a while hang around with friends who have different tastes also. Because you need to know about others also to be a winner/leader.

18. Keep your trust in God. Have a good spiritual life and dedicate enough time for The Almighty and indulge in charity work.

19. Never bother about saving each and every paisa. Allow your purse to leak once in a while. Some Donations, hosting a party for friends, buying someone a gift etc. will never push you down. Watch out for the brownie points to be earned in life. Because you cannot and should not live as an individual only. Think about the people around you always.

20. Do not worry about people who don’t like you. But care about all the people who are with you and keep the doors open for everyone. Remember in life there is nothing like lifelong enemies.

21. Allways have something to do or something to look forward to. Never sit idle and gossip like losers. Plan your career and life in advance but anticipate twists and the worst outcomes also.

22.  Don’t get tensed by whatsoever. Remember the main difference between a winner and loser is this one. Even if a loser has done all his work the night before his interview/test/presentation he will get tensed up and perform average. A born winner even if the effort put in is less, because of his cool approach will succeed more often.

23. Fortune favours the brave, so take chances and risks if you want to succeed. Come out of your comfort zone.

24. Take your life seriously but give a lot of room for fun and enjoyment. Be witty and jovial always. Losers can never be so.

25. Most importantly learn how to take defeat ! Anticipate failures !!! Cope up with them and move forward. Being successful doesn’t mean that you should win allways. But consider failures as stepping stones and move forward.

26. Allow people to defeat you at times. Enjoy when you loose. Because they are the best opportunities to learn and keep your feet on earth.

All the Best Friends !!!!!

I am who I am
Who else would I be
I won’t change for you
So why change for me
I won’t waste my life
Being someone I can not be
Because I’m not a fake
Unwilling to break
Get used to what you see
I’m going to be me

An unusual wake up call from my School Principal on 11-1-11 at around 2:30 AM woke me up sending a cold wave down my limbs. The call I would hate to remember as one of the most shocking I had in my Life. The message he had for me left me speechless. He said Mr. P. E . Ramachandran, Our Maths Teacher left this world yesterday night. Hardly 12 hours before this I was at my school and had spend quality time with this genius. And now, this news! I couldn’t believe it! Rather didn’t want to!!

The rest of the night was a sleepless one, with the shock of the sudden demise haunting me on one side and the flashbacks of those lovely good old days at school on the other. I tried to ring up a few of my school friends then. But it was in vain as no one picked up. And well, I knew how they all would be reacting so on a second thought I decided to make those calls after 6. Now waiting for my batch mates to turn up to leave to Ramachandran Sir’s house at Allepy, I thought I will write this.

Though there are many who inspire and influence my thoughts, there are only very few people in my life, who could and can really influence my decisions. Ramachandran Sir was one among them. The last decade for me was so full of him along with my other teachers in SKPS. I guess, it was in 2002, when we were in 9th, that we first met Ramachandran Sir. Even before he came to SKPS, we had heard a lot about this very strict disciplinarian cum Maths Prof coming from KENDRIYA VIDYALAYA, post retirement to tame the naughty SKPSIANS. To much of our surprise, his style was unique and much different from what we heard. There were many people who hated Mathematics, and I was one among them. From a struggling student to a 95% holder in Maths for 10th Std CBSE If I grew, a lot of credit goes to my Maths teachers at SKPS – Ramachandran Sir and Babu Paul Sir. It was not just my story but of many others too.

Ramachandran Sir’s classes were not just algebra and calculus ruining your brains. It was much more fun than any Mathematics class could be! Not denying the fact that ‘the cane’ treatment was inevitable in his class. But in this case, students use to love it. Ramachandran Sir used to give us little punishments, make us stand at back, some times wack us with his cane if we were too naughty. But no one ever to best of my knowledge felt bad with all that. Infact, if punishments could change you without inducing any fear or hatred to the person imposing it upon you, it was only with this man.

After my 10th, I still had chosen to continue in the Maths – Science Stream. After an initial log phase in First year of Junior College, my mathematics went into a real lag phase. While in other subjects I could get a decent score, Mathematics was my biggest weakness as Calculus made no Sense for me at all. More over I was convinced that my stream of choice should be medicine or management and not engineering. So integration and differentiation was the last thing I wanted to learn. With this attitude, I’m sure I would have flunked more than once in my 12th Mathematics. But surprising me and many others I never used to get marks less than 50 % in Maths as per school records. The secret was with my Mathematics Teacher (Ramachandran Sir, also my class teacher then), who had full confidence in my dreams and knew I wanted more time to settle in. Not disappointing anyone I cleared 12th Maths Paper too.

With the person he was, I feel our batch was the luckiest as he had a special attachment with us, which was evident from the freedom he gave us. He had a lot of confidence in each one of us. He knew us too personally that our dreams soon became his ‘dreams for us’. Till we all got into our Professional Colleges he used to ring up and enquire our whereabouts regularly!

After going to college, even with activities and events at college level taking up most of your time, our group used to make it a point to visit our old school and teachers at least once in 6 months. We were there for 12 years and it was not easy for us to say Goodbye to the place which taught us all the tricks to excel in life. Ramachandran Sir was the most favorite among all, as for a reason to come back to SKPS. When we fail to show up for some time, this gentleman used to make calls and ask what happened and why we failed to do so this time.

When people later in my life started telling that I’m so lucky and things often happen to me so perfectly timed and well planned I say 3 things – 1. God’s Grace, 2. Parent’s Prayers 3. Teacher’s Blessings.

This was my triangle of Success till now and would be the same hopefully for ever. The rest all would fall in place if you have these three. Often called as a ‘Masca Guy or a Soap Boy’ doesn’t make any difference to me as long as I am aware I am getting all the blessings. The rest doesn’t matter.

It was with teachers at SKPS that we learned how to respect and more over LOVE your teachers. Our teachers were never distant and far from us, they were part of your life so much that even years after leaving the school they are so dear to us.

And when you are sincere you get sincere rewards. For the past one year due to commitments and responsibilities at college I hardly came home or visited my school teachers. I missed many B’days, Anniversaries and forgot to even call them regularly. And I heard from my friends who went for visits and get-togethers at schools about teachers asking ‘what happened to Jino ?’.  And especially Ramachandran Sir was upset that often my phone comes busy and he could not get me on line for almost a year. So this time when I got a week long vacation, the first plan on my card was to visit Rev. Fathers and Teachers at SKPS. And so with the plan I went to School yesterday. Though many teachers whom I wanted to meet were on leave, I was so happy to meet Ramachandran Sir. He talked with me for about 10 mins during lunch break. He was still complaining about me not calling and my phone being busy always. He asked me to check whether the number of mine fed on his phone was the right one and promised me he will call me as I get back to Bangalore. And as I said Bye and walked off to meet other teachers the least I expected was to hear the news of his demise within few hours.

We will miss you a lot, dear Sir !

One of my friends told me there are only two classes of people in this world. He had few names to quote and told me that people belong to only two classes talkers or doers. Well I could not agree much with that and hence decided to share few of my thoughts with you all. According to me, there are not two, but three classes of people broadly – 1) Talkers 2) Doers 3)Others. The third category will have two unique ‘L’ groups – Losers and Leaders.

The argument goes there are people who talk nicely but fail to execute. And of course as much is said about them there are people who do not talk anything much but ‘DO’ things well. Generally people are biased that the second category people ‘doers’ are much better than mere ‘talkers’. Even the good old saying goes like this – “Talk less and Work More”. But for me both these categories are ‘winners’ in their on ways. Both talkers and doers can win battles even. Remember inspirational words by Mr. Churchill made a country win the war. At the same time due credit goes to the men who executed the mission too.

If you talk well, even without doing anything especially in a country like India you can survive. To add on to that, even if you do really bad things if you know how to talk and handle the situation you can often escape the embarrassment and consequences. I have read somewhere – “Every fraud on this planet is blessed with one gift – the gift being his tongue”.

If you are a guy who can execute things brilliantly but not so good at your speaking skills still you will get your recognition and appreciation, though it might take a while or even few years for people to realize your presence. And the fame might last longer than for ‘talkers’.

Now how about being not good at both? You neither can talk well nor do. Then the title would say – Looser! When I say not good talkers, I include the people who talk a lot of nonsense and absolute rubbish. They indeed are talkers but, sorry that non-sense talkers for me goes into the class of losers. People who crib also are talkers but are still contenders for the Losers Category. Don’t they say that Empty Vessels make more noise! There are people who talk rubbish or who do not take part in any of those conversations as such or who prefer to be silent always and still do not do anything productive. This includes who just sits in a room 24*7 watches some movies, reads ‘those’ magazines always, eat , puke it out, eat again and sleep…. get up… eat…. !!!

And then the people belonging to the other ‘L’ Category – LEADERS ! I feel there are men in this world who can talk well and do things effectively. May be they do not execute everything that they preach. But still there are people who do productive work and can speak well, convince people and get work done too. These days one would encounter a lot of such Leaders in your life. No, I’m not talking about Political Leaders. The focus is on real Leaders who inspire us with their lives and their words. Business entrepreneurs, Sports Persons, Few Politicians….. The list goes on. But not just these high profile candidates, this category of people are present in every walk of life. And Not just that Any one of us can be one too! And our Country badly needs GOOD LEADERS!

Bottom Line: – Be it category 1 or 2 – Talkers or Doers, they both are at the end of the day winners.  Being in the category of Leaders is what everyone should strive for. But definitely ensure that you are not in the category of Losers!

Feast of St. George, Mannar , Year 2006

At times in Life you realize what you missed only when you actually get it back. After a few months gap again I’m realizing what I have been missing these days. Life always seemed to be pleasant and happy for me by God’s Grace. But there are some things in life which I was very much involved with and to which my heart yells to return to.

Nothing ever brought me joy as much as the moments I spend with my parents at home. Apart from being at home, I just love being at my place, with my people.

The friends from my school, the friends at Sunday school, Guys who worked with me together for many a things in our parish…. Meeting all of them and once again spending ‘quality’ time with them is so nostalgic.

We are celebrating Mother Mary’s Feast at our Parish Church now. This takes me back to my School Days. It was at such occasions and around such people that we guys grew to take up small but responsibilities. Taking in charge of the pavement decoration, putting up a refreshment stall, helping out in the big procession etc. was too BIG for our age then. After going to Bangalore I have been missing all this petit – stuff, though bigger things came my way there.

Yesterday was the first day of festival. Attending the Rosary procession with candles, hundreds of men came seeking the blessings of Mother Mary. Me too relishing the old times with KCYM Pals raised on shoulders the ‘statue of Mother Mary’ …. Enchanting pyrotechnics followed the procession… Like always stood with the friends with lots of chit-chats, unlimited SODA from KCYM stalls and enjoyed a lot. Talks and discussions till wee hours is the only thing I missed yesterday. I had to return home early, definitely because I knew my parents would have been waiting! I could not help helping Dad for setting up the electric decorations at my house too. Because the fact is that I always loved and still love to work with him. (Excuse my laziness at times)

Even at Johns we all work for many a things… wee hours…. Ideas… discussions… execution… everything happens…! But there is always a difference….! Probably I belong to this place more than anywhere else! I just, just love being at HOME!!!

Born to Win

I follow certain weird philosophies and principles in my life. Often people do not understand but still mostly I stand for what ‘I’ believe is true. And it has been always a pleasure for me to get criticized by people in what I do. Because that is something else that I strongly believe, – ‘Criticism brings out the best in me’.

So let me slip into the shoes of a philosopher ! Caution : If you realize it is going be to non sense . Please stop reading this…. :p

Criticism for me is divided into two categories – creative and non creative. But let it belong to any of these classes it always can help some one if he/she knows how to take it in the right sense. Oh No ! I’m not trying to make a statement that I know how to take all that in the right sense. But being inspired by so many of the books about positive thinking, I would like to always associate such criticism with my success every time.

The creative class of criticism is from individuals who actually know what they are talking. They do not mean it personal. They show the maturity to point out your mistakes – sometimes in public or otherwise in secret. However they just not point the finger at you but rather tell you how to improve from then on. These type of criticism often one gets from parents, authorities, good friends etc. Their aim is not to defame you rather they actually want things to be better. To tackle such comments and people is very simple. The Golden rule is ‘Shed your ego’ and ‘Listen’. You need not follow or take every word of the critic but rather you listen and think to make changes.

The second class of criticism – the non creative and unproductive criticism comes from the losers of the group or society. It is rooted mainly in jealous, hatred and other ‘unholy’ virtues. There is no harm lending your ears to such critics. Often people hate to listen to such people and rather try to push those critics even down. But my style is little different though ! I love to listen to such critics who have lost badly. It is actually not criticism but it is cribbing in its purest form that they unleash. Never mind, take these with a light heart and over a period of time you will enjoy these words. You will actually realize these so called critics are trying so hard to find fault with you and as a result they end up praising you indirectly. Let me explain, often as these people have no clue about what they are talking they will soon shift to insulting you in what you are good at. The jealousy and hatred slowly will pour down from their hearts and even the listeners and audience will soon realize you are still the Hero. And of course from such criticism and negative cheering derive some positive energy which would ensure you are still on the top of table.

Never ever bother to fight back to some one who is desperately trying to put you down. Because if you do so, you are showing you are as cheap and mean as your friend. So rather help him come out his ego. In the true biblical way which seldom people follow keep that smile still on face and help him come out of his loosing habit. Probably then you gain your friend back who gives you creative criticism only

And in Malayalam they say “Manga ulla mavel mathrame allukal kal eriyukaullu” (People throw stones only at the tree with fruits)

So if everyone targets you My Boy ! Sit back and enjoy ! Know that you are the star  !

Also, Ensure that people still throw stones at you

because you are born to win ! not to loose and crib !
